Area: 574,35 km2
Average height: 1,000 – 1600meter.
Spreading from four districts in Ha Giang: Quan Ba Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac, the Plateau has many limestone mountains close to the North tropic with high slope.
Dong Van stone plateau is a stone mountains area with the age of 400-600 million years from Devon to Pecmi era. There is rain season from April to September, the rest is dry season.
Dong Van stone plateau is the inhabitant area for 250,000 citizens from 17 different ethnic people of Vietnam.
Up to 2010, this is the first global geological park in Vietnam, and the second in the South east area.
The profile of Dong Van stone plateau is highly appreciated in the world for its statistic of mineral geology and environmental resources. Especially, UNESCO has paid special interest in the cultural character of ethnic groups in Dong Van.
This is the special limestone area with many typical feature of the history of development of the earth’s crust, natural phenomena, beautiful landscape and the diversity of the biology and cultural tradition of local citizens.
Dong Van stone plateau is also famous for its beauty of the purple flower called Tam Giac Mach. This is the flower which blossom in the autumn. Along with the yellow terraced fields of the ripen crops. The flower has made a new look for the beauty of Ha Giang’s tourism.
